The creation of Manchester's iconic 'active travel bee'
Working with Peter Saville and Chris Boardman, we took Manchester's much-loved icon, the bee, and developed a marque that has now become synonymous with not just cycling and walking in the region, but also Manchester as a hive of sustainable and active travel as a whole!
Our bee is carefully designed to represent active travel of all sorts, with its handlebar antenna, lines on the wings to represent the ten boroughs of the City Region, and stripes to suggest pedestrian crossings.
The bee is now seen everywhere across the city (and beyond!), representing all aspects of active, sustainable travel. From staff uniforms to transport livery, to bus stops, interchange signage and, of course, the lapel badge that you'll often seen being worn by Andy Burnham and others!
