In spring 2025, we delivered a full-day training session with the brilliant team at Exeter Students’ Guild, designed to boost confidence and consistency in writing, language and tone of voice.
Work that matters
Write or Wrong – copywriting training
The Guild team approached us for help developing clearer, more engaging messaging across a wide range of formats – from social posts to student advice and campaigns. In particular, they wanted support with using their tone of voice across different channels and adapting it for specific audiences, including undergraduates, postgraduates, mature students and distance learners.
We created a tailored training day combining practical exercises, real-world examples and useful theory. The session explored how to:
– Shift tone while staying true to brand
– Rewrite jargon without losing meaning
– Plan messaging across campaigns and channels
– Create inclusive, accessible and impactful copy
– Develop a manifesto for the Guild
We introduced activities on 'Shifting tones', 'One message, different formats' and a 'Sin Bin' of overused phrases — all designed to help the team write with more confidence and clarity.
The day was filled with discussions, ideas and collaboration.
Feedback from the team was overwhelmingly positive and they now have practical tools and techniques they can use every day — we can't wait to go back with more training in the future!
This training was delivered as part of our Write or Wrong series. If you'd like to know more about this or any other training we offer, we’d love to hear from you – info@creativeconcern.com
