Impact report

Northern Forest
Green Growth. Delivered. Celebrating seven years of the Northern Forest
Copywriting, design

Creative Concern has been closely involved with the Northern Forest partnership – an ambitious vision from the Woodland Trust, the Community Forest Trust and four of northern England’s Community Forests to establish at least 50 million trees over 25 years – since its inception in 2018. From working on the initial prospectus and large scale launch, to our Founder Director, Steve Connor supporting the Northern Forest Partnership Board for a number of years.

Because of this, we were delighted when the Woodland Trust, on behalf of the partnership, invited us to write, design and create promotional graphics for an impact report, reflecting on the progress the Northern Forest Partnership has made over the last seven years.

At the seven-year mark, over 10 million trees have been established between Liverpool and Hull, covering Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and the Humber, Lancashire, and parts of Cumbria, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Created together by the Woodland Trust, the Community Forest Trust and four Community Forests in the north of England – The Mersey Forest, City of Trees (Greater Manchester), the White Rose Forest and Humber Forest.

The programme’s impact has been significant. And this report was created to celebrate these achievements. It was printed as a booklet for outreach at the 2025 Party Conferences, to engage the current and future governments in the critical importance of continuing to support the Northern Forest to deliver more jobs, better health, nature recovery and greater climate resilience in the North.

Our 20+ years of experience working in forestry and policy communications, as well as our connections to the Northern Forest, shines through the writing of the report. And thanks to impact data from Liverpool John Moores University, the report was written to emphasise the increasing return on investment that the Forest has generated, and continues to generate, since its launch.

To ensure that it was a light and engaging read, we wrote the report with the design in mind to allow space for the booklet to breathe. It focuses attention on the impact - with infographics, photography from the Community Forests and illustrated graphics.

We offered full service project management throughout the process of creating the report - liaising directly with all the partners and wider stakeholders to feed into the content and design.

‘Creative Concern bring energy, political nous and a desire to champion innovation in the nature/environment sector to all they do and have facilitated and produced a wide range of quality collateral for the Northern Forest partnership since 2018. The 2025 ‘impact report’ was no exception, showcasing as it does the partnership’s achievements since 2018 in a clear and accessible way that speaks directly to senior politicians and decision makers, adding considerable value to the partnership’s collective advocacy at the highest level.’
