Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust came to us to help implement activities for staff – medical and non-medical – to become more aware of their energy consumption and change their behaviour to reduce it. We took time to find out about the challenges faced by staff when carrying out their daily activities, and the existing energy related problems on site.
We then worked together to create an energy reduction campaign name and identity, key messages and copy lines before moving on to produce posters and stickers for staff to dress their wards and offices, informing colleagues of the necessity to switch off equipment and machines where possible.
We also developed the Green Heart character and took him on a travelling roadshow around the campus to encourage staff to come and collect their campaign materials, and meet with patients and visitors to explain the purpose of the campaign. Since this initial campaign, we have also made a film to recruit more staff participants to the Green Impact scheme and developed a solution to increase accurate recycling rates.
