Creating a communications toolkit for sustainable cities

With our European network colleagues at Ecoavantis (Spain) and Sympraxis (Greece) we completed this major toolkit for C40 Cities which was aimed at global cities who need to communicate their climate action plans to citizens and businesses. 

This project represents one of the most substantial strategic communications toolkits on climate that we’ve encountered and we were delighted to be able to support the Climate Action Planning team at C40 Cities to research, write and design their toolkit. 

Entirely written and designed by our combined teams it included guidance on branding, campaign planning, events, media and film. We also created a promo film for the toolkit.

The creation of the toolkit was supported by a large scale programme of engagement with C40 member cities, where our teams interviewed or surveyed climate leaders from every global region to source insights and case studies.

Critically the toolkit covers how to understand the different audiences you might encounter on climate issues and how to frame climate action in a way that makes sense to them and which they are more likely to support; the vital challenge for leaders seeking to take a city or region to net zero at pace. 

The toolkit is also very consciously global in its content and approach, for example taking full account of different social media platforms across regions, and different cultural contexts for communicating a climate message.
